Wings For My People is the true, handwritten story of a P.6 student who dared to dream beyond his circumstances — and who understood, even as a child, that success is not about escaping struggle. It is about ending it.
Because when Captain Grace Salongo finally lifts off, he will not be flying alone. He will fly for every parent who walks miles to reach a clinic, every child who carries bricks instead of books, and everyone who ever needed proof that one dream, fiercely held, can change a community forever.

Meet Grace Salongo
Grace Salongo was born in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, in 2010. However, in 2013, his family had to flee a civil war and found safety in Uganda’s Kyangwali Refugee Settlement. It was there that Grace started attending school, and currently attends school at P4T Primary School in the settlement.
Grace loves writing, especially about his dreams for the future and his life in Kyangwali. His original poem, Wings for My People, was inspired by his hope of one day helping children overcome poverty and reach their full potential. He believes stories have the power to lift children beyond their circumstances, reminding them that, like a pilot soaring through the sky, their dreams can carry them far beyond the limits.

Every dollar raised funds school supplies, scholarships, and educational programming for refugee students at Kyangwali Refugee Settlement through My Home Stars. Donation copies of the book are also delivered directly to Kyangwali schools.

Who is Grace Salongo?
Grace is an 11-year-old student in P.6 at Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, Uganda. His family fled war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He wrote Wings For My People by hand to share his dreams of becoming a pilot.
